How to download Youtube videos from command line

There are many ways and sites to download Youtube videos but not many command-line tools exists like youtube-dl. Its a light weight python based command-line tool that lets you download from Youtube and other popular sites like Dailymotion, Viki, Facebook etc. youtube-dl is not platform specific as it requires a Python Interpreter (2.6, 2.7 or 3.2+) and it even has a Windows Executable which includes Python.

One can even choose video quality to download using command-line flags or let the tool choose its own which is nothing but the highest available quality. It also has options to use proxies, download playlists, add custom title to the downloaded video file and many more.
